DEP Completes Cleanup and Restoration Work at Montgomery County Hazardous Site
The Department of Environmental Protection recently completed cleanup at the Macoby Creek Hazardous Site Cleanup Program site in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County.

The site was home to a former electroplating facility that discharged wastewater into lagoons located next to the Macoby Creek.

DEP worked to demolish an existing building and remove cadmium and trichloroethene contaminated soils beginning in June. Approximately 18,000 tons of hazardous waste and 2,000 tons of residual waste were shipped offsite, along with other building debris. Steel and concrete taken from the site will be recycled.

In its final phase, DEP restored the parcel to pre-excavation elevations, replacing 26 trees and shrubs along the creek that were removed during cleanup activities. The property was then seeded as work equipment was removed from the site.
