* Harrisburg Authority First To Advertise And Receive Bids For Nutrient Credits
On October 29 the Harrisburg Authority completed Pennsylvania’s first public bidding for the procurement of nutrient credits under the Department of Environmental Protection’s Compliance Plan for the Chesapeake Bay.

* Nutrient and Carbon Credit Trading Seminars Set For February
The Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and the Capital Resource Conservation and Development Area Council are jointly hosting two one-day seminars on nutrient credit and carbon trading in State College and Lancaster on February 12 and 19.

* DCNR Grant Awarded to Wildlands Conservancy for Stream Work in Berks, Lehigh Counties
The Wildlands Conservancy was awarded a $20,000 grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources towards landowner outreach, stream restoration, and partnering with stakeholders in Berks and Lehigh counties in the Little Lehigh Creek Watershed.

* Game Commission Offers Seedlings for Schools Program
Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe this week announced the agency will be helping Commonwealth school students learn about the vital role of trees in the environment through its "Seedlings for Schools" program, in which students will be able to plant a variety of tree seedlings at home, on school grounds or in their community.

* Zebra Mussel Survey Completed In Conowingo Reservoir, One Mussel Found
A private engineering firm has completed its survey of potential Zebra Mussel populations in the reservoir behind the Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna River in Maryland which found alone invasive Zebra Mussel was found in a water intake at the Conowingo Hydroelectric Dam.

* Green Gala Raises Over $53,000 In Green For Wildlands Conservancy
Being green may have been a problem for Kermit, but it wasn’t the same case for over 230 guests at Wildlands Conservancy’s Green Gala held at Brookside Country Club on November 21 which raised over $53,000 for the programs and services of the organization.

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council and Dominion invite groups, individuals, companies, or organizations to apply for the Western Pennsylvania Environmental Awards.

* Rep. DeWeese Calls For Speedier Oversight of Marcellus Shale Drilling
In a statement released this week, House Majority Whip Rep. Bill DeWeese (D-Greene) called on Department of Environmental Protection Acting Secretary John Hanger to provide speedier oversight to Marcellus Shale drilling operations in the state.

The Department of Environmental Protection this week announced the award of $454,000 in pollution prevention and energy efficiency grants to 81 businesses under the Small Business Advantage Program.

The Energy Association of PA issued the following statement in response to the Public Utility Commission report showing that 602 more customers than last year are without power this winter.

The Department of Environmental Protection this week announced the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Program contractor, URS Corp., recently completed its cleanup of the abandoned Westan Tannery in Westfield Borough and Westfield Township, Tioga County.

* DEP Completes Cleanup and Restoration Work at Montgomery County Hazardous Site
The Department of Environmental Protection recently completed cleanup at the Macoby Creek Hazardous Site Cleanup Program site in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County.

* McCorkel Tree Farm Permanently Protected By ClearWater Conservancy In Centre County
The ClearWater Conservancy completed its eleventh conservation easement and its first in Huntingdon County which will permanently protect a 151-acre forested property in Franklin Township, Huntingdon County.
