Township Association Sponsors Balancing Marcellus Shale Interests Workshop April 7

The PA State Association of Township Supervisors is sponsoring a Balancing Marcellus Shale Interests Workshop on April 7 at the Best Western Inn, Williamsport.
            The development of Marcellus Shale is having widespread economic, land use, aesthetic and environmental impacts on communities in Pennsylvania. 
            The purpose of this workshop is to engage both public- and private- sector stakeholders to develop strategies for how community development and planning tools can be utilized to maximize the benefits of Marcellus Shale and mitigate adverse impacts. 
            Public officials from Northern Tier counties, environmental groups, regional economic development organizations, residents and representatives from various natural gas-related companies active in the Marcellus Shale region are invited to discuss quality of life impacts, ongoing land use concerns, aesthetic impacts, and community development issues.
            The speakers include:
-- George Asimos, Esq. - Marcellus Shale and the Municipalities Planning Code;
-- Kurt Hausammann, Director of the Lycoming County Planning Department - Municipal Issues and Oil & Gas Task Forces;
-- Tim W. Kelsey, Ph.D., Professor of Agricultural Economics, Penn State University - Economic Development Issues; and
-- Natural Gas Developers’ Interest/Perspective.
